euroCRIS, the international organisation dedicated to developing standards, processes and policies for Current Research Information Systems has issued a statement of support for EOS. On behalf of the euroCRIS Board, Anne Asserson, says, "euroCRIS (www.eurocris.org) is delighted to see the launch of Enabling Open Scholarship (EOS. Committed to open and toll-free access to research output, euroCRIS sees EOS as an important and timely resource for all to use to increase awareness of the benefits of open, toll-free access to researchers, research managers, innovators and the general public (usually via the media). euroCRIS has developed for CRIS (Current Research Information Systems) the CERIF (Common European Research Information Format) 'standard' (it is an EU recommendation to member states). CERIF not only provides suitable metadata for research outputs (datasets and software as well as publications) but also provides contextual metadata covering projects, persons, organisations, funding etc and thus makes the relevant research information available. The use of a CERIF-CRIS itself as a repository, or the use of a CERIF-CRIS linked to a repository (such as Eprints, Dspace) to enhance it, have been promoted by euroCRIS. EOS will surely inform decision-making in research funding and research-performing institutions leading to the e-Research environment so long expected.
